Gold vermeil jewelry contains a thick layer of real gold. It is a durable, long-lasting precious metal with the prettiest light gold tone. Our necklace is made with 14K gold vermeil, of which sterling silver (.925) is the base metal, layered with 14K gold at the thickness of 2.5 - 3 microns. The plating thickness is confirmed by lab testing of each batch.

The difference between gold vermeil and gold plated is the base metal and the thickness of the gold. Base metals for gold plating are often zinc alloy, iron, or brass while gold vermeil base metal can only be sterling silver. The thicker layer of gold for gold vermeil means it is less likely to fade or tarnish.

❓ Will gold vermeil ever tarnish?

Gold vermeil can tarnish naturally over time, but it’s easily cleaned. If using a polishing cloth, it should be used LIGHTLY and not pressed hard against the metal to remove tarnish, as it could rub off the gold on your piece over time.
